Hi, I'm Joel Ward and I am the newest faculty member at Peoria Regional Learning Center.
I've been working as a director and teacher in alternative education since 2003 but my transition to Peoria Regional Learning Center has been a unique career change. I've always used a philosophy of care and respect toward my students as my basic classroom principal - but at PRLC I have found a school culture based on this ideal with teachers, staff and most importantly students who believe in and actively work to turn an ideal into a reality. It is energizing and exciting to be part of this new environment.
Speaking of environments, the fact that PRLC is inside one of the most amazing parks in Illinois makes my job a joy. I get to share this natural world with our students and my fellow teachers every day. It's hard to believe, still, when I park my car in the mornings, that I'm at "work."
I've been amazed at the students I've met and worked with this year to date and am looking forward to learning and growing together with them for the rest of the school year.
In the future, I'll use this blog to post updates about my learning experiences at PRLC and information and links about the Intersession classes I'll be doing with students this year. Plus anything else that I want to write about.
