The Peoria Regional Learning Center Foundation is committed to supporting the continued operation of the Peoria Regional Learning Center (PRLC) located at Wildlife Prairie Park in rural Hanna City, Illinois. The PRLC was established in the fall of 2011. It was originally named Peoria Regional High School but as time has progressed and its philosophy and mission has evolved, it has become apparent that it is more of a center for learning than just a high school thus the name change.
The PRLC maintains an enrollment of around 60 students. These students come from all of the 12 public high schools in Peoria County. Students are referred to the PRLC by the counselors at their home high schools mainly because they had given up on going to school. Their reasons vary but primarily they are because the students felt they were bullied, were socially awkward, did not like the “drama” that they felt existed, or a variety of other emotional issues. These students do not have a history of violent behavior or severe drug or alcohol issues.
The PRLC offers a comprehensive high school curriculum. It employs 5 full-time certified teachers who are highly qualified in their subject areas. Each student has their own graduation plan that is based on their home school’s graduation requirements. Once the students complete all of the requirements of their graduation plan they are awarded a diploma from their home high school. The unique combination of individualized academic instruction and strong interpersonal relationships between students and staff make the PRLC a special place that promotes learning and the social and emotional growth of its students. The school has a family-like atmosphere. This plus the fact that the PRLC is located inside Wildlife Prairie Park with its 2,000 acre campus which is constantly utilized, makes for a special learning environment.
The PRLC is funded primarily through the Illinois State Board of Education (I.S.B.E.). This funding comes in the form of General State Aide (GSA) that is based on the previous year’s attendance rate and a Truants Alternative and Optional Education Program (TAOEP) grant. The TAOEP grant is shared with project T.A.R.G.E.T. that is the truancy prevention program operating out of the Peoria County Regional Office of Education.
Unfortunately because of declining financial support from the State of Illinois, the PRLC is in danger of not being able to continue in its present format. It is imperative that additional funds be generated to support the operation of the PRLC. Please consider giving a donation to the school. Donations can be made in the form of cash or in-kind donations such as supplies and materials. If you wish to contribute to this worthwhile cause you can do so by contacting the school at (309) 495-6800, or by mailing a donation to the school at the following address:

The PRLC Foundation is a member of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois (CFCI) and as such maintains a 501c3 status as a non-profit organization. Donations to the school through the CFCI may be tax exempt.
